SAEDNEWS: A wolf was almost perfectly preserved after 44,000 years in the Siberian permafrost.
According to Saed News’ social affairs service, citing Fararu, an ancient wolf with a fierce appearance and astonishingly well-preserved teeth has been uncovered from the Siberian permafrost after 44,000 years.
Experts report that the fully grown male wolf, found in Yakutia in eastern Russia, retains fur, bones, and even intact organs, along with its teeth and skeletal structure.
The wolf has been transferred to the Mammoth Museum Laboratory at the North-Eastern Federal University in Yakutsk, where it is undergoing a detailed examination.
The ancient remains discovered in Yakutia are among the most complete ever found, as the ice has preserved organic material from decomposition.
Local residents discovered the wolf in 2021, buried about 130 feet deep in the permafrost along the Tirekhtyakh River in one of Russia’s coldest regions.
Experts say this is the oldest known wolf subjected to such a thorough autopsy, with even its stomach contents remarkably intact.
Dr. Albert Protopopov commented on the examination, saying, “We hope to gain a snapshot of Pleistocene-era creatures. This was a large and active predator, and we have the unique opportunity to understand what it ate.”
