SAEDNEWS: The claim that Red Bull contains bull sperm appears on English social media. It comes from the word “taurine,” one of Red Bull’s ingredients, which is derived from taurus (bull in Latin). However, this is false—taurine used in energy drinks is synthetic and unrelated to animal sperm.
According to Saed News and quoted from Alodoctor:
Red Bull is one of the most well-known energy drinks among many people. Red Bull (meaning “Red Bull”) is a trademarked energy drink produced by the Red Bull company. Today, this beverage is popular worldwide. In 2007, more than 3 billion cans of Red Bull were sold globally. As it rapidly expanded in markets, it suddenly caused shock and doubt among half of its consumers due to a rumor.
A claim circulated stating:
“Due to the presence of bull sperm in Red Bull energy drinks, the Food and Drug Administration declared these beverages unhygienic and non-religiously permissible.”

What is the truth?
Red Bull, meaning “Red Bull,” is a trademark energy drink produced by the Austrian company Red Bull GmbH.
The announcement of the drink being unhygienic and non-permissible was related only to the distribution of counterfeit versions in the market. The original product, which belongs to the Austrian company, has the necessary approvals from food and drug authorities and is permitted for consumption. However, a Thai-produced counterfeit version lacked import authorization and entered the country through illegal channels. These two products are very similar in appearance.
The rumor about bull sperm in Red Bull has also appeared in English-language social media. The reason for this is the root of the word “taurine,” one of the main ingredients in Red Bull, which comes from the Latin word “Taurus,” meaning bull. Since taurine is also found in bull sperm, this has been misused as a basis for spreading misinformation. Additionally, the brand name’s association with a bull has fueled these rumors, although they are false.

Taurine is a naturally occurring amino acid found in nature. It exists in meat, fish, and human milk. It makes up about one-thousandth of the human body weight. The gallbladder and large intestine in animals are among the main organs where taurine is found. One of the main controversies arises from the fact that taurine is also present in bull sperm and blood. However, it can also be produced synthetically and is one of the main ingredients in all energy drinks, manufactured industrially by pharmaceutical companies.
Taurine has many benefits, including helping maintain cellular hydration levels, which improves cell volume and enhances nutrient transport. Because taurine naturally exists in breast milk and has beneficial properties, it is also used in infant formula.
The Director General of Inspection and Supervision of the Food and Drug Organization stated regarding this rumor that some energy drink companies, for advertising and psychological impact purposes, have tried to suggest the presence of bull sperm in their products. However, this claim is entirely false and has no scientific basis.
