A Dinosaur-Era Relic Comes Back to Life in Khorasan

According to Saed News, citing the Young Journalists Club, the head of the Roshkhar Environmental Protection Department announced that residents of Saadabad village in Roshkhar have observed an aquatic species believed to date back to the age of dinosaurs. The creature has been identified as a horseshoe crab, estimated to be around 300 million years old.

He added that environmental experts from the county’s Department of Environment examined and identified the species. Their investigation confirmed that the organism is indeed a horseshoe crab, a species that has existed since the time of the dinosaurs. It was also noted that this aquatic species can emerge after its eggs are laid wherever water flows.

The head of the Roshkhar Environmental Protection Department further emphasized that the horseshoe crab, previously also observed in the region, is known as a “living fossil.” It is an aquatic species that plays an important role in the ecosystem.

Its body consists of three main parts: a front section (cephalothorax) shaped like a horseshoe, a segmented abdomen connected to the front by a hinge-like joint, and a tail section.
