SAEDNEWS: Supertanker Struck by Naval Mines on Unauthorised Route, Iranian Forces Say
According to Saednews, The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy said Monday that a supertanker attempting to navigate the restricted southern route through the Strait of Hormuz struck two naval mines, triggering massive fires and forcing the vessel to come to a complete stop.
According to a statement from the IRGC Navy, the tanker hit two sea mines after attempting to use the prohibited route south of the strait. The resulting fires were described as severe.
The IRGC Navy also warned that any vessel violating its security regulations for the Strait of Hormuz would face similar consequences.
“Compliance with the transit rules announced by the IRGC Navy is mandatory,” the statement said. It further warned shipping companies against what it described as provocations by the U.S. military, urging them not to unnecessarily put their vessels and crews at risk.
