According to SaedNews: The UK Foreign Office has summoned Israel’s chargé d’affaires in London to formally protest Israel’s move to hold a tender for a settlement project in the E1 area.
In a statement, the British Foreign Office said it had asked the Israeli diplomat to convey its demand that Benjamin Netanyahu’s government immediately abandon the E1 settlement project. London described the initiative as unacceptable and harmful.
E1 refers to a strategic area east of Jerusalem as well as a broad plan for settlement expansion there. Its significance is linked less to the number of housing units involved than to its geographical position and the potential effect of development in the area on the territorial continuity of the West Bank.
