UN Official Warns Organization Could Face Collapse Without Major Reform

According to SaedNews: Matthias Schmale, the United Nations’ High Representative in Kyiv, has issued a strong warning about the organization’s current structure, telling The Telegraph that the UN no longer has the effectiveness needed to achieve its goals. He said that without fundamental changes, the organization could follow the path of the League of Nations and eventually collapse.

Schmale, who has nearly three decades of experience in humanitarian affairs, criticized the veto power held by the five permanent members of the Security Council — the United States, Britain, France, China and Russia — describing the arrangement as outdated and unsuitable for a global institution.

He argued that if the UN were to be redesigned from the ground up, giving veto rights or permanent membership to a small group of countries would be entirely misguided. Instead, he said, greater decision-making authority should be given to other nations around the world.
