SAEDNEWS: The U.S. military announced early Wednesday that it had carried out strikes on several locations in southern Iran. Further details regarding the targets, the extent of the damage, and any casualties were not immediately released.
According to Saed News' political desk, the U.S. military announced early Wednesday that it had carried out military strikes on several locations in southern Iran.
The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) stated that the operation was launched in response to what it described as Iranian attacks on commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz.
In its official statement, the U.S. military claimed:
"U.S. Central Command forces have initiated a series of powerful strikes against Iran to impose significant costs for targeting and attacking commercial vessels carrying innocent civilian crews in an international waterway."
CENTCOM further alleged that the strikes were conducted in response to attacks on three commercial ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz. The statement described Iran's actions as "unprovoked, dangerous, and a clear violation of the ceasefire."
Hours later, Axios, citing a senior U.S. official, reported that the overnight operation inside Iran was four to five times larger and more powerful than the strikes carried out approximately ten days earlier.
At the same time the U.S. military released its statement, local sources reported explosions in the southern Iranian cities of Bandar Abbas, Qeshm, and Sirik.
