SAEDNEWS: CNN, citing U.S. officials, reported that the Trump administration is preparing for negotiations with Iran, and U.S. Vice President JD Vance is also likely to be part of the negotiating team.
According to SaedNews political service, CNN reported on Tuesday night local time, citing U.S. officials, that the Trump administration is preparing for potential face-to-face negotiations between U.S. and Iranian officials in the coming days, as both sides work toward a long-term agreement to end the conflict between Washington and Tehran.
IRNA reported that White House spokesperson Caroline Lewitt told CNN: “Discussions about in-person negotiations are ongoing, but nothing is final until announced by the President or the White House.”
CNN, citing U.S. officials, said the meeting is likely to be held in Islamabad with the involvement of Pakistani mediators.
Officials added that the possibility has increased due to the two-week ceasefire announced tonight by the United States and Iran.
CNN further reported that U.S. officials indicated that Trump’s special envoy Steve Whitcaff, his son-in-law Jared Kushner, and U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance are expected to attend the meeting. Vance is currently visiting Hungary, and sources noted that a stop might be added to his itinerary if the timing is suitable.
On Tuesday night local time (April 7, 2026 / Farvardin 18, 1405), U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social, after 40 days of conflict with Iran, that he was withdrawing from planned attacks.
Trump stated: “Following discussions with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff, during which they asked me to halt the planned offensive against Iran tonight, and provided that the Islamic Republic of Iran agrees to a full, immediate, and secure reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, I agree to suspend bombing and attacks on Iran for two weeks. This will be a reciprocal ceasefire.”
The U.S. president claimed: “The reason for this action is that we have already achieved and exceeded all our military objectives, and we are far from a final agreement on long-term peace with Iran and peace in the Middle East.”
Accepting Iran’s 10-point proposal, Trump added: “We have received a 10-point proposal from Iran, which we believe provides a practical foundation for negotiation. Almost all past points of disagreement between the U.S. and Iran have been addressed, but a two-week period will allow the deal to be finalized.”
The president continued: “On behalf of the United States, as President, and also representing Middle Eastern countries, it is an honor that this longstanding issue is on the verge of resolution.”
