SAEDNEWS: SNN News: Robert A. Pape, a security affairs expert and professor at the University of Chicago, described Donald Trump’s acceptance of Iran’s 10-point proposal as the basis for a ceasefire agreement as “the greatest defeat of the United States since the Vietnam War.”

America’s Biggest Defeat Since the Vietnam War

According to Saed News political desk, citing Fars News Agency, a prominent American professor has argued that the United States’ acceptance of Iran’s proposed ceasefire plan “indicates the emergence of Iran as the fourth center of global power.”

John Mearsheimer, a well-known professor at the University of Chicago, shared an image on his X (formerly Twitter) account showing Iran’s proposed plan as the basis for the ceasefire agreement. He wrote: “This is the 10-point peace plan that Trump considers ‘acceptable’… (it is) a major strategic defeat for the United States, the biggest since the Vietnam War.”

Details of the 10-point proposal by the Islamic Republic of Iran—accepted as the framework for the ceasefire—were provided to Fars News Agency by an informed source. The plan outlines the final structure for ending hostilities and includes the following key provisions:

  • A complete halt to all forms of aggression against Iran and its allied resistance groups.

  • Withdrawal of US combat forces from the region, a ban on launching attacks from bases against Iran, and avoidance of combat positioning.

  • Limited daily passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz for two weeks under a “safe passage protocol” supervised and regulated by Iran.

  • Removal of all primary, secondary, and UN-imposed sanctions.

  • Compensation for damages to Iran through the establishment of an investment and financial fund.

  • Iran’s commitment not to develop nuclear weapons.

  • US recognition of Iran’s right to enrich uranium, with negotiations on enrichment levels.

  • Iran’s agreement to negotiate bilateral and multilateral peace agreements with regional countries in line with its interests.

  • Extension of non-aggression commitments to all parties involved in attacks against resistance groups.

  • Termination of all resolutions by the IAEA Board of Governors and the UN Security Council, with all commitments formalized in an official UN resolution.

Previously, Iran had rejected a 15-point US proposal, making any ceasefire conditional on acceptance of its own plan and an official endorsement by Donald Trump. Trump has now formally accepted Iran’s 10-point proposal.

The University of Chicago professor described the plan as “evidence of Iran’s rise as an emerging fourth global power center.”
