SAEDNEWS: Four people lost their lives and around 15 others were injured in a series of overnight shootings in one of Dallas’ popular nightlife districts, according to US police.
According to Saednews citing CNN, three separate shooting incidents occurred in Deep Ellum, an entertainment district east of downtown Dallas, within a relatively short period overnight.
Dallas Police Chief Daniel Comeaux said during a Sunday morning press conference that investigators have not yet established whether the three incidents are connected, although the possibility remains under investigation.
The exact number of injured victims has not been confirmed, as some individuals arranged their own transportation to receive medical treatment.
According to preliminary police findings, the first shooting occurred at approximately 12:20 a.m., followed by a second incident shortly after 1 a.m. A third shooting was reported around 30 minutes later.
Police have arrested several individuals for questioning while attempting to identify those potentially responsible. However, authorities have not confirmed whether the arrested individuals are connected to the shootings.
Chief Comeaux noted that additional officers had been deployed to the area in anticipation of large Halloween crowds. No police officers were injured during the incidents.
The three shooting locations were reportedly within roughly half a mile of each other in Deep Ellum, a popular district known for its restaurants, bars, art galleries, and live music venues. Several local establishments had organized Halloween celebrations that evening.
Authorities have not determined whether the gunfire occurred inside businesses or in public streets.
The police chief commended officers for their rapid response, highlighting one officer who successfully performed lifesaving procedures on an injured victim.
As the investigation continues, police have not released the identities or medical conditions of those injured. Investigators are also appealing to the public to provide photographs and video recordings that could help establish the sequence of events and identify those involved.
Comeaux emphasized that the department would pursue everyone responsible and ensure they were taken into custody.
The latest incidents occurred approximately six months after another pair of overnight shootings in Deep Ellum, which took place within one block of each other. According to CNN affiliate KTVT, those earlier incidents resulted in the death of a 26-year-old security guard and injuries to five other people.
