SAEDNEWS: Europe Cannot Cover Gas Shortfall Without Russian Supplies Amid Hormuz Closure and Qatar Plant Shutdown, Novak Says

Europe Can Address Its Gas Shortage Only with Russian Supplies, Deputy PM Says

According to Saednews, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said there is currently no way to make up for the gas supply shortfall, given the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and the shutdown of a plant in Qatar following the March attacks, TASS reported.

In his view, European politicians are harming their own interests by banning gas supplies, including those from Russia. He warned that European consumers would ultimately bear the cost.

“As a result, there will be a shortage. The ban on LNG supplies scheduled to take effect on January 1 is particularly surprising, as the European market is already facing an imbalance. As we know, the deficit is substantial, and gas storage levels are much lower—I believe they are 10% below the average for this period in previous years,” Novak said.

He also stated that 12 million tons of liquefied natural gas (LNG) had been supplied to Europe over the past nine months, exceeding last year's volume.

“It appears that our European partners want to replenish their supplies more quickly and purchase more LNG before January 1, 2027,” he added.
