Saed News: Italy’s Defense Minister has called for the creation of an independent European defense system to provide military support to EU member states, Ukraine, the United Kingdom, and Balkan countries.
According to SAEDNEWS, citing RIA Novosti, Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto stated that Ukraine’s accession to the European Union would be very difficult and, if realized, could trigger a serious crisis in the agricultural sector of many European countries.
He said that instead of full EU membership for Ukraine, Europe could consider establishing a broader defense system that goes beyond the current EU borders and includes EU member states as well as Ukraine, the United Kingdom, Norway, and Balkan countries.
The threat of the United States withdrawing from NATO has led to an increase in European defense budgets and has pushed European countries toward independent and national security systems.
