According to SAEDNEWS, citing Fararu: Residents of a coastal town in northern Italy are currently dealing with a strange yet beautiful problem. More than 100 wild peacocks have turned the village of Punta Marina into their own territory, and their presence among the people has become both admirable and troublesome.

During the mating season, dozens of peacocks with colorful feathers and magnificent tails walk across the rooftops and fences of this coastal village, while their loud cries disturb the residents’ nighttime peace.

The population of these birds has increased significantly over the past three decades and has now reached around 120 peacocks. This issue has divided the town into two groups. Some people want to preserve and protect them, while others believe they should be relocated to natural habitats.

Marco, an 81-year-old retired driver, says the peacocks have caused sleep disturbances, traffic problems, and environmental pollution. He also claims that by jumping onto cars, they scratch the vehicle bodies and discourage tourists from traveling to the area.

On the other hand, some residents defend the presence of these birds. Claudio, a local pastry chef, described the peacocks as magical and said that people have lived peacefully alongside them for years. He believes the peacocks have taken refuge in residential areas to escape predators such as wolves and foxes.

In recent years, the local municipality has made efforts to control the peacock population, but a relocation plan in 2022 was halted due to opposition from animal rights groups. Now, with increasing offers from different parts of Italy to take care of these birds, the possibility of implementing the relocation plan again has been raised.
