Saed News: Peter Jackson, the director of The Lord of the Rings, received an honorary Palme d’Or at the opening night of the Cannes Film Festival.
According to SAEDNEWS, Peter Jackson, the New Zealand filmmaker, was awarded the honorary Palme d’Or during the opening ceremony of the 79th Cannes Film Festival, presented by Elijah Wood (who played Frodo in The Lord of the Rings).
In his speech, Jackson recalled the early days of making his first film Bad Taste and the risk of screening 20 minutes of The Lord of the Rings at Cannes, which changed critics’ perceptions.
This year’s opening film at Cannes is Electric Venus, directed by Pierre Salvadori. The ceremony was attended by figures such as Demi Moore, Chloé Zhao, and Bong Joon-ho.
