Saed News: According to the announcement of the United World Wrestling, Las Vegas, USA has been selected as the host of the 2027 World Championships and the first stage of Olympic qualification.
According to SAEDNEWS, the United World Wrestling and the USA Wrestling Federation officially announced that the 2027 World Wrestling Championships for seniors, which will also serve as the first qualifying stage for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, will be held at the historic Thomas & Mack Center (University of Nevada, Las Vegas).
According to ISNA, this event will take place from September 11 to September 19 next year (September 20 to 28 in the Iranian calendar).
Each gold, silver, and two bronze medalists in each weight category will earn a quota place for their country’s National Olympic Committee.
Thus, for the first time in 12 years, hosting of the senior World Wrestling Championships returns to the United States; the last time this competition was held in Las Vegas was in 2015.
Iran has good memories from Las Vegas hosting wrestling events and managed to become the team champion in freestyle wrestling in its last appearance. Under the coaching of Rasoul Khadem, the team won two silver and two bronze medals and became world runner-up. However, after the doping violation of Abdusalam Gadisov, who won silver for Russia in the 97 kg category, the team rankings changed, and Iran was awarded the world championship title of the pre-2016 Rio Olympic year after 10 years.
In the 2015 World Championships held in 8 weight classes, Hassan Rahimi won silver in 57 kg and Hassan Yazdani in 70 kg, while Seyed Ahmad Mohammadi in 65 kg and Alireza Karimi in 86 kg won bronze medals.
The hosting rights for the 2026 senior wrestling championships have been taken away from Bahrain, and a new host will be announced soon. It is said that Kyrgyzstan has a strong chance of being selected as the host.
