In some African countries, customs and traditions can be surprisingly different from anywhere else. In one of the strangest events in the region, an 8-year-old boy married a 60-year-old woman!
The boy’s grandfather reportedly dreamt that the spirits of his ancestors were suffering and told him that his grandson must marry as soon as possible to bring them peace. The boy, who already knew the woman’s children and liked the woman herself, proposed to her—and his family approved!
Helen, who married someone far younger than her own grandchildren, said, “We made our ancestors happy by doing this. If this ceremony hadn’t happened, they would have surely suffered.” The unusual wedding took place in Tashwan, South Africa.
