A Review of History: The Life of Ahmad Reza Pahlavi, Son of Reza Shah; From Disputes with His Half-Brother Mohammad Reza to His Escape and Illness

According to the historical service of Saad News, Ahmad Reza Pahlavi was the second child of Reza Khan from Ismat al-Molouk Dolatshahi (born 1925 in Tehran). He completed his elementary education at the Nazem School. He then entered the Nazem High School but, due to the occupation of Iran (in September 1941) and the exile of Reza Khan, he went with his father to Mauritius, where his education remained unfinished. After the death of Reza Khan, in August 1944, he entered the American School in Beirut and continued his studies. After some time, Ahmad Reza returned to Iran and married Simin Taj Bahrami, daughter of Hossein Bahrami (Ahya al-Saltaneh), in 1946. Later, he divorced her and married Roza Bozorgnia in 1958. Ahmad Reza's isolation among other family members, which apparently stemmed from a form of mental illness, meant that he did not have an equal standing with the other children of Reza Khan. Like his other siblings, he had disagreements with his brother Mohammad Reza on various issues. Ahmad Reza headed the winter sports federation and was involved primarily in economic activities and abusing his position in the court. Before the revolution, without Mohammad Reza's knowledge, he fled the country with his family and died in 1981 in France due to leukemia.

So far, the role of the Shah's brothers in the political and economic landscape of Iran during the Pahlavi regime has received little attention. Although the political role of the Shah’s brothers remained mostly limited to political maneuvers or succession rumors due to their lack of political positions, in the economic sphere, they amassed wealth through exploitation of their court positions and illegal methods. This article explores the life of Ahmad Reza Pahlavi as one of the Shah's brothers, describing some of his activities.

Although Ahmad Reza attended the Nazem School and the Nazem High School, despite the efforts of the school administrators and the stringent supervision of Reza Shah regarding the education of the royal children, his academic performance was weak, similar to some of his siblings.
