SAEDNEWS: Iran and Iraq’s foreign ministers condemned Israeli crimes in Gaza and called for urgent Islamic and Arab action to end the blockade, while also reaffirming bilateral agreements including the Shalamcheh–Basra railway project.
According to Saed News, quoting IRNA, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi, who traveled to Jeddah to participate in the extraordinary meeting of the foreign ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), met and held talks on Monday, August 25, with Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein on the sidelines of the summit.
At the beginning of the meeting, Iran’s foreign minister expressed gratitude to the government and people of Iraq for their generous hosting of Arbaeen pilgrims, describing this major Shia ceremony as a symbol of solidarity and strength for Shia communities worldwide.
During their talks, the foreign ministers of Iran and Iraq strongly condemned the atrocities of the Israeli regime in depriving the oppressed people of Gaza of access to basic necessities of life, particularly food, water, and medicine. They emphasized the urgent need for practical action by Islamic and Arab countries to end the food and medicine blockade on Gaza, deliver humanitarian aid to its defenseless population, stop the ongoing genocide, and prosecute and punish the perpetrators of these crimes.
The two sides also reviewed bilateral relations and highlighted the importance of expanding cooperation in various political and economic fields. They stressed the need for the full and effective implementation of bilateral agreements, particularly the security memorandum of understanding and the completion of the Shalamcheh–Basra railway project.
Araghchi, heading a diplomatic delegation, arrived in Jeddah on Sunday, August 24, to participate in the OIC extraordinary meeting of foreign ministers. The objective of the summit is to review the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza, coordinate urgent assistance, and discuss the legal and political implications of the Israeli regime’s plans for permanent occupation of Gaza.
