SAEDNEWS: The spokesperson for Iran’s Foreign Ministry condemned the Zionist regime’s actions violating Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, warning that the move aims to destabilize the region and fuel insecurity in the Red Sea and the Horn of Africa.
In a statement released on Saturday, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei strongly condemned Israel’s decision to recognize Somaliland, describing the move as a blatant violation of Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Baqaei said the step amounted to a clear breach of the fundamental principles of the United Nations Charter and international law, accusing Israel of seeking to fragment an Islamic country through destabilizing actions.
Emphasizing Iran’s principled position on preserving the sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia, he stated that Israel’s action was consistent with what he described as its broader policy of destabilizing the region and increasing insecurity in the Red Sea and the Horn of Africa.
The Iranian spokesman also welcomed the firm stances taken by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the African Union in condemning the move, and urged the international community to take decisive measures to counter what he called an expansionist and destabilizing policy.
His remarks came one day after Israel formally recognized Somaliland, prompting swift condemnation from African and Arab countries and raising concerns that the move could be linked to broader regional and political objectives.
Somaliland declared independence from Somalia in 1991 following a prolonged civil war but has not been recognized by any member of the United Nations. The self-declared republic has its own currency, flag and parliament, although its eastern regions remain disputed.
Somalia has demanded that Israel reverse its decision, calling the recognition of Somaliland an act of aggression that it said would never be accepted.
