SAEDNEWS: The UK is awaiting approval from the US before giving Ukrainians the green light to use their missiles on Russian territory.
According to SAEDNEWS, In recent developments, a source within the UK government revealed that a request concerning Storm Shadow missiles was submitted to the US system over a month ago, but there has yet to be a response. The source noted that the issue appears to be effectively "stuck in their system."
In a further update, a second government source confirmed that "discussions were still ongoing around Storm Shadow with allies," while a third defense source characterized the situation as a "routine US process." This suggests that while the UK is eager to provide Ukraine with long-range weapon capabilities, obtaining consensus from allies—including the US, France, and another unnamed NATO country—remains a critical step.
The Storm Shadow missiles, which have an impressive range of 250 kilometers, could effectively target military bases deep within Russia, vital to Moscow's military operations in Ukraine. However, while the UK is keen on empowering Ukraine to utilize these weapons, a government source indicated that they do not hold the US responsible for the current delay, emphasizing that such policy changes inevitably take time.
During a recent Pentagon briefing, Deputy Spokesperson Sabrina Singh acknowledged US concerns regarding "escalation" related to Ukraine's potential use of long-range weapons. She further suggested that such weaponry might not be essential for Ukraine to reclaim its territory.
Matthew Palmer, the Deputy Chief of Mission at the British Embassy in London, distanced the US from influencing the matter during an interview with Times Radio, asserting that the conditions under which British weapons are deployed should be determined solely by London and Kyiv.
Among British military personnel, there is speculation that the US may be waiting to evaluate the ramifications of a potential Ukrainian operation within Russia before arriving at a decision. Despite this uncertainty, they have expressed optimism for a swift resolution regarding the Storm Shadow request.
