Shadow of the Blade’ Starring Jackie Chan Tops China’s Box Office for Fourth Consecutive Week

The film Shadow Edge, directed by Larry Yang and starring Jackie Chan, held the top spot at China’s box office from September 12–14, earning 61.3 million yuan ($8.5 million) and bringing its total gross to 1.133 billion yuan ($157.4 million), according to Variety.

This thrilling action movie follows Wong Tak-Chung (Chan), a retired surveillance expert in Macau, who is called back into action to track a complex heist orchestrated by a mysterious criminal known as the “Wolf King.” Alongside a rookie cop, He Qiguo (Zhang Zifeng), Wong confronts the cunning Fu Langsheng (Tony Leung Ka-Fai) and his gang of criminals. According to Comscore data, the film ranks fifth on the global box office chart.

In second place, the animated film No One earned $5.6 million, bringing its seven-weekend total to $222.8 million. Directed by Yu Shui and inspired by the classic Chinese tale Journey to the West, the film reimagines the story from the perspective of a group of small demons, each embarking on a spiritual journey. No One currently ranks eighth in global box office standings.

Third place went to Death Against Justice, which grossed $3 million over the weekend and has a cumulative total of $414 million. Directed and written by Shen Ao, along with Zhang Ke and Shu Leiyang, the film is set against historical events, focusing on the 1937 Nanjing Massacre.

The story follows Ah Chang (Liu Haoran, known from Detective Chinatown), a postman who, during the Japanese occupation, poses as a photographer to survive. Working secretly in a Japanese-controlled studio, he shelters both soldiers and civilians—a quiet but courageous act of resistance.

China’s total weekend box office reached $26.8 million, pushing the country’s 2025 year-to-date total to $5.565 billion—an 18.8% increase compared to the same period last year.
