SAEDNEWS: A Wall Street Journal reporter reported that the U.S. and three European countries are likely to reject Russia’s draft for extending Iran’s snapback mechanism, which may also fail to secure nine votes in the UN Security Council.
According to Saeed News, citing a Wall Street Journal reporter, Russia’s draft resolution to extend the snapback mechanism is likely to be rejected by the United States and the European Troika (E3).
Lawrence Norman, a Wall Street Journal journalist, wrote today on X (formerly Twitter) that he was informed the draft is unlikely to gain the necessary support in the UN Security Council, making a veto unnecessary.
The British news agency EMMA reported that Russia submitted a draft resolution regarding the extension of UN Security Council Resolution 2231, which is set to expire in October. This action apparently aims to prevent an imminent confrontation between Iran and Western governments.
Anonymous sources in the region also indicated that China, as a co-sponsor of the draft, would join Russia’s initiative.
