SAEDNEWS: The Iranian village Rooyin, which dates back to the Timurid era, is located in the northeastern province of North Khorasan.

Rooyin: The First Traditional Textile Village in Iran

The village is home to around 800 households, where life revolves around time-honored traditions and local craftsmanship. Men typically sustain their families through farming and orchard maintenance, while women carry forward a remarkable 400-year-old legacy of textile weaving.

Rooyin’s artisans create a rich variety of textiles, including wrappers, towels, handkerchiefs, sheets, and fabrics used for shirts. Every piece reflects generations of skill and cultural heritage.

Approximately 300 villagers are actively involved in the full textile process—from spinning and dyeing threads to weaving and selling the finished wrappers. Their dedication has earned them international recognition, including UNESCO’s seal of authenticity for their exceptional work in traditional textile arts.
