SAEDNEWS: Iran’s Foreign Ministry summoned the Cypriot ambassador in Tehran to protest the interventionist position regarding Iran’s territorial integrity.
The ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus in Tehran, Petros Nacouzis, was summoned to Iran’s Foreign Ministry following the inclusion of interventionist language concerning Iran’s territorial integrity in a joint statement issued by officials from Cyprus and the United Arab Emirates.
During the meeting, Mohammad Ali-Bek, Assistant Foreign Minister and Director General for Persian Gulf Affairs, delivered a formal written note expressing the Islamic Republic of Iran’s strong protest.
Ali-Bek stressed that the three Iranian islands of Abu Musa, Greater Tunb, and Lesser Tunb are an inseparable part of Iran’s territory. He emphasized that Iran’s historical, undisputed, and effective sovereignty over the islands is beyond question. The Iranian official categorically rejected any territorial claims against Iran’s sovereignty, describing such positions as a violation of the fundamental principle of respecting national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
He also reiterated Iran’s longstanding policy of non-interference in the sovereign and territorial matters of other countries, including Cyprus, and urged the Cypriot government to promptly correct the serious error and avoid repeating similar actions in the future.
