SAEDNEWS: As many as 50 research laboratories throughout the Weizmann Institute sustained damage during the Iranian missile strikes in June, a senior official of the institute says.
On June 15, 2025, Iran launched ballistic missile strikes targeting the Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovot, an Israeli settlement in the occupied territories, causing extensive damage to the prestigious research institution.
The head of the institute’s scientific council reported severe consequences for the academic community. “We are facing sanctions from international institutions and universities that refuse to cooperate with us in scientific and academic fields,” he said, highlighting the broader fallout of the attack on Israel’s scientific collaborations.
According to Lebanese outlet Al Mayadeen, the official described the destruction: “The two missiles that hit the Weizmann Institute in the Iranian attack caused extensive damage to property, materials, and test results that we cannot repeat.”
He added that nearly 50 laboratories were destroyed, along with a large amount of equipment and property, leaving students and researchers without resources to continue their work. “The students have nothing to do,” he lamented, underlining the devastating impact on scientific research and education.
The attack marks a significant escalation, demonstrating the high stakes of regional tensions and the vulnerability of civilian scientific infrastructure in conflict zones.
