Foreign Ministry: Criticizing Iran for Exercising Its Right to Self-Defense Is Irresponsible

According to Saednews, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei said Iran's military actions against US bases in the region were carried out as an act of self-defense and should not be described as a military confrontation.

In a statement posted on X on Monday, Baqaei responded to remarks from a United Nations spokesperson who had expressed concern over Iranian strikes targeting US military bases in regional countries and vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.

Baqaei argued that the current situation stems from what he described as military aggression launched against Iran by the United States and Israel, rather than a conflict initiated by Iran.

He said Iran had not attacked other countries without cause and maintained that its strikes on US military facilities along the southern coast of the Persian Gulf were conducted in line with its right to self-defense under international law.

The spokesperson also said that countries hosting US military bases share responsibility for preventing their territories from being used to launch attacks against Iran.

Baqaei added that it is unfair to criticize Iran for defending itself while, in his view, failing to hold those responsible for violating international law accountable.
