Amid Gaza Protests, Australia Claims Iran Behind Anti-Semitic Incidents Without Evidence

According to SaedNews, quoting ISNA, Anthony Albanese, Australia’s Prime Minister, today (Tuesday) accused Iran of directing at least two anti-Semitic attacks in Australia and announced that the country will cut diplomatic relations with Iran.

Albanese, without providing evidence or documentation, claimed that Australian intelligence services had linked Iran to attacks on a Sydney restaurant and a Melbourne synagogue.

Shortly before this announcement, the Australian government informed the Iranian ambassador in Australia that he would be “expelled.” Albanese also said that Australian diplomats based in Iran would be relocated to a third country.

Referring to the country’s main domestic intelligence agency, the Prime Minister told reporters: “The Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (ASIO) has collected sufficiently credible information to reach a deeply concerning conclusion. The Iranian government directed at least two of these attacks. Iran has attempted to conceal its involvement, but ASIO assesses that Iran was behind the attacks.”

The Australian Prime Minister further stated that Canberra will pass legislation to place Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on the list of “terrorist organizations.”

According to the Associated Press, since the beginning of Israel’s war against Palestinian resistance group Hamas in 2023, anti-Semitic incidents have increased in two Australian cities. Nevertheless, the Canberra government has acted provocatively without presenting documentation.

In recent months, Australia has repeatedly witnessed pro-Palestinian demonstrations. Earlier this week, following the announcement of famine in Gaza, Australia saw its largest protests in history supporting Palestine, with half a million people across the country’s cities calling for sanctions against Israel and an end to arms trade with the regime.
