SAEDNEWS: How to Make Delicious Homemade Apple Jam That Stays Clear and Fresh for Months in the Refrigerator
According to Saednews, Apple jam is one of the most popular and delicious types of jam, making it a common choice for breakfast or an afternoon snack. Here is a simple, general recipe for homemade apple jam, along with key tips to make it even more flavorful.
Apples: 1 kg, preferably sweet and juicy varieties such as Golab or Red Delicious
Sugar: 700–800 g, depending on the sweetness of the apples
Fresh lemon juice: 2–3 tablespoons
Cardamom or cinnamon: Optional, for extra aroma and flavor
Water: About 1 cup, for the initial cooking stage

1. Prepare the apples: Peel the apples, remove the cores and seeds, and cut them into small cubes or thin strips. To prevent browning, you can place the chopped apples in cold water with a little lemon juice.
2. Cook the apples: Put the chopped apples and water in a suitable pot, preferably stainless steel or enamel-coated. Cook over low heat for about 15–20 minutes, until the apples become tender.
3. Add the sugar: Add the sugar to the softened apples and stir until it dissolves completely. Increase the heat and bring the mixture to a boil.
4. Finish cooking: Reduce the heat and let the jam simmer gently until it thickens. This step takes approximately 30–45 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent the jam from sticking to the bottom of the pot.
5. Add flavorings and lemon juice: During the final 10 minutes of cooking, add crushed cardamom or a cinnamon stick, along with the lemon juice. Lemon juice helps keep the jam clear and prevents sugar crystallization.
6. Check if the jam is ready: Place a drop of jam on a chilled saucer. If it thickens after a few seconds and does not spread easily, the jam is ready.
7. Store the jam: Remove the pot from the heat and allow the jam to cool slightly. Transfer it to clean, dry jars, seal them tightly, and store in a cool, dark place.

Choose the right apples: Sweet apples with a slight tartness, such as Golab apples, provide the best flavor. Extremely sweet apples may result in a less balanced taste.
Use the right amount of sugar: The standard sugar-to-fruit ratio for jam is usually 1:1. However, you can use 700 g of sugar per 1 kg of apples to keep the jam from becoming overly sweet.
Add lemon juice at the right time: Always add lemon juice toward the end of cooking. Adding it too early may cause the apples to become firm.
Prevent sugar crystallization: If sugar crystals form in your jam, you can reheat it gently with a little lemon juice until the crystals dissolve.
Store it properly: Apple jam can be stored in tightly sealed jars in the refrigerator for several months, provided it has been prepared and stored safely.
Enjoy your homemade apple jam!
