SAEDNEWS: 3 Different Ways to Cook and Season Mashed Potatoes for the Best Flavor
According to Saednews,
Preparation Time: 10 minutes
Cooking Time: 30 minutes
1.5 kg potatoes (about 5 medium potatoes)
½ cup melted butter
1 cup milk
½ cup sour cream
3 garlic cloves
Salt and black pepper, to taste
Chopped chives, for garnish
Peel the potatoes and cut them into pieces. If the potatoes are small, cut them in half. For larger potatoes, divide them into six pieces. Try to cut all the pieces into roughly the same size so they cook evenly.
Place the chopped potatoes and garlic in a large pot and add enough cold water to completely cover them.
Bring the pot to a boil over high heat. Once the water starts boiling, reduce the heat and allow the potatoes to simmer until they become completely tender. This usually takes about 15–20 minutes.
Before draining the potatoes, test them with a fork to make sure they are fully cooked. Insert the fork into a piece of potato; if it slides in easily, the potatoes are ready. If some pieces still feel firm, cook them for a few more minutes.
Once the potatoes are fully cooked, drain them in a colander and shake them several times to remove as much excess water as possible.
Return the cooked potatoes to the pot. Using a regular or electric potato masher, mash them thoroughly until smooth.
Once there are no firm pieces remaining, add the milk, melted butter, salt, and black pepper. Stir until the mashed potatoes reach your desired consistency.
Finally, add the sour cream. Sour cream is optional, but it gives the mashed potatoes a creamier texture and a pleasant flavor.
Once all the ingredients are well combined, taste the mashed potatoes and adjust the seasoning. Add a little more sour cream, salt, or pepper if needed.

If you enjoy the flavor of cheese, you can add it to your mashed potatoes for an extra-rich taste.
Follow the basic recipe above. Once the mashed potatoes are ready, transfer them to an oven-safe dish and cover the top with Parmesan cheese. Place the dish in the oven for 5–10 minutes, or until the cheese has melted.
Once the cheese turns golden brown, remove the dish from the oven and serve your delicious cheesy mashed potatoes.
Mushrooms add a delicious savory flavor and make mashed potatoes even more satisfying.
Prepare the potatoes according to the basic recipe and cook them until tender. Then mix them with the seasonings and herbs.
Use about 300 g of mushrooms for every 3 potatoes.
Slice the mushrooms and sauté them in a pan.
To prevent the mushrooms from releasing too much water, cook them over high heat for a short period of time.
Add the cooked mushrooms to the mashed potatoes and stir well.
Your flavorful and nourishing mashed potatoes are ready to serve. Garnish with your favorite herbs or greens.

For an even richer version, combine the two variations above by adding sautéed mushrooms and cheese to the prepared mashed potatoes. You can also transfer the mixture to an oven-safe dish and bake it briefly until the cheese melts and turns golden.
Some people cannot consume milk because of lactose intolerance. If this applies to you, you can simply leave the milk out of the recipe.
Instead, add 2 tablespoons of heavy or table cream to the mashed potatoes. This helps maintain a smooth, creamy texture while adding a pleasant richness to the dish.
