SAEDNEWS: Virtual Reality Could Help Ease Children’s Fear of Injections and Doctor Visits

This Technology Makes Injections Easier for Children

According to Saed News and quoted from Kalla Soda:

Virtual reality (VR) headsets can assist professions such as doctors and pediatric nurses, especially during procedures like vaccinations and injections, when children tend to become restless.

Studies conducted in medical offices suggest that VR headsets can be used as a tool to distract children’s attention from the mild pain of injections or blood draws. It appears that most children who wore these headsets experienced less perceived pain.

In such situations, it is important for children to feel calm and comfortable. For this reason, these headsets display images of toys, bright lights, and visually engaging graphics. However, they are designed carefully so that the child’s attention is not overly diverted to the point of causing sudden hand or leg movements during the injection, as such reactions could create complications and even safety risks during the procedure.

Dr. Chad Rodnick, an entrepreneur and professor at Atlantic University, developed this idea for testing VR headsets after observing their effects on an 8-year-old child during treatment. Following the success of this initial experiment, researchers focused on refining the visual content to better capture children’s attention and improve comfort during medical procedures.
