SAEDNEWS: Iran’s Foreign Ministry summoned the British ambassador in Tehran to protest allegations linking Iran to an incident at RAF Fairford, calling on the UK to provide evidence to support its claims.
According to Saednews, Hugo Shorter, the British ambassador to Tehran, was summoned on Tuesday, October 13, by Alireza Yousefi, Iran’s assistant foreign minister and director general for Western Europe, who conveyed the Islamic Republic’s strong protest against what it described as Britain’s irresponsible and damaging approach toward Iran.
Yousefi firmly rejected the British government’s allegations, describing them as baseless. He stressed that British officials could not escape accountability or their international obligations by shifting blame and making unsubstantiated accusations against Iran.
He stated that Britain must answer for its involvement in the US-Israeli military aggression against Iran, as well as its long-standing provision of a safe haven for anti-Iranian terrorist groups and individuals.
Condemning Britain’s actions as part of a broader campaign against Iran, Yousefi said such conduct was inconsistent with the United Kingdom’s obligations under international law.
He urged London to provide, without delay, documents and evidence substantiating its allegations against Iran concerning the reported incident at RAF Fairford. He warned that failure to present such evidence would lead Tehran to seriously reconsider bilateral relations, adding that the British government would be responsible for any resulting consequences.
The British ambassador said he would relay Iran’s position to officials in London.
The diplomatic summons came after Iran’s Foreign Ministry issued a statement on Monday night strongly condemning British officials’ allegations concerning the reported security incident at RAF Fairford. The ministry characterized the claims as a “vile plot” intended to further an anti-Iranian campaign and deflect responsibility for Britain’s involvement in the US-Israeli war against Iran.
