SAEDNEWS: Two French nationals imprisoned in Iran on spying charges have been released based on a prisoner exchange arrangement between the two countries.
According to Saednews, Jacques Paris and Cécile Kohler, who were imprisoned in Iran for espionage on behalf of French intelligence and involvement in crimes against Iranian security, have been released. Their freedom came in exchange for the release of an Iranian citizen in France and the withdrawal of a complaint against Iran at the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
Mahdieh Esfandiari, an Iranian national who had been jailed in France, has also been released and may return to Iran at her discretion. She was sentenced to one year in prison and freed in February after serving her term.
In September, the ICJ announced it had dropped the case regarding the detention of the two French citizens at France’s request.
