Assassination of Ayatollah Khamenei an unprecedented war crime: Iran envoy

Speaking to Sky News, the Iranian ambassador emphasized that the assassination, orchestrated by US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, represents an unprovoked assault on a nation’s highest authority.

Mousavi described the act as an unprecedented crime against the head of a sovereign state. He also labeled the US-Israeli military aggression as a blatant violation of international law.

These actions are illegal and must be stopped immediately, he warned, calling for global public awareness.

Regarding Tehran’s military response, Mousavi clarified Iran’s stance toward Persian Gulf neighbors. Iran maintains friendly, brotherly relations with all neighbors, including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and others, he stated. However, Tehran previously warned that any military aggression against the country would trigger a response based on the legitimate right of self-defense.

The ambassador drew a red line for future operations: Any military base, asset, or facility serving US intelligence or military activities against the Iranian people will undeniably be considered a legitimate target.

Asked specific targets, Mousavi reiterated that any infrastructure aiding military aggression constitutes a valid military objective.

The diplomatic crisis follows attacks launched Saturday, just as Iran was entering serious negotiations with the US. President Trump later confirmed on Truth Social that broad military operations had begun, alleging they were necessary to prevent threats to US national security.
