Saed News: An official of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has warned about the worsening humanitarian crisis in Yemen.
According to SAEDNEWS, citing Al Jazeera, Armen Yadagarian, the Acting UNHCR Representative in Yemen, warned about the consequences of funding shortages in the process of providing aid to refugees, stressing that this situation could put the lives of tens of thousands of people in the country at risk.
In a video published on Sunday evening on the social platform “X,” he referred to the critical situation of refugees in Yemen, stating that around 64,000 refugees in the country are facing one of the world’s most severe humanitarian crises.
The UN official said that refugees in Yemen are among the most vulnerable groups, adding that financial constraints have reduced the capacity of relief organizations to respond to growing humanitarian needs, at a time when such needs have become more urgent than in previous years.
Yadagarian also noted that the UNHCR, in cooperation with local partners, is trying to provide services such as protection, shelter, and life-saving assistance to refugees, but a lack of funding has significantly limited its ability to respond effectively to increasing needs.
He emphasized the need for “early and flexible funding,” saying such support could enable timely humanitarian action and help prevent further deterioration of the situation.
According to available reports, Yemen hosts around 100,000 refugees, most of whom have arrived from the Horn of Africa. Meanwhile, Yemen itself has been facing a complex humanitarian crisis over the past years due to war, insecurity, and internal conflicts.
Previously, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) also warned in April that millions of families in Yemen are struggling with hunger, displacement, and disease, and that the humanitarian situation in the country continues to worsen.
