According to SAEDNEWS, citing Faradeed, Cornelia and Leonard Popa, aged 48 and 50, have been passionate metal-detector hobbyists for more than six years. During that time, they have discovered a number of important historical artifacts. However, what they found on a rainy Sunday in a forest in the Făgetu area near the town of Vălenii de Munte exceeded all expectations.

Leonard Popa said: “The signal from our metal detector stopped us in our tracks. It was extremely strong, and we knew we had found something important. We carefully began digging and eventually uncovered a container filled with Roman coins. There were many coins, but we took our time to avoid damaging anything, especially since the container had broken underground.”

According to Leonard, the vessel was buried at a depth of approximately 40 centimeters, making it relatively easy to recover. Alongside the container full of Roman coins, several silver objects were also discovered and will be examined and appraised by specialists.

Leonard and his wife say they never miss an opportunity to spend their days off in nature with their metal detectors. They emphasize that they do not consider themselves “treasure hunters,” but rather history enthusiasts and nature lovers.

In recent years, while exploring different areas of Prahova County, the couple has found coins, pottery, jewelry, and weapons from various historical periods. They have always handed over their discoveries to the relevant authorities in accordance with Romanian law.

The newly discovered treasure will now be officially cataloged and evaluated by museum experts to determine its precise historical significance. Under Romanian law, the couple will also receive a reward for their find.
