Saed News: One of Kim Kardashian’s trademark features is her voice—a slightly raspy tone that studies suggest is highly attractive to humans, similar to the raspy sounds produced by dolphins. According to SAEDNEWS, citing Hamshahri Online, toothed whales such as dolphins, killer whales, and sperm whales are capable of producing a raspy sound that researchers say is highly distinctive and polarizing.
For these animals, sound is a vital tool, allowing them to hunt even in the depths of the ocean. To achieve this, they use newly discovered anatomical structures that were previously hidden inside their noses.
By analyzing the sounds produced by whales, researchers found that these animals use this vocal capability extensively. It enables them to access falsetto-like tones, allowing them to produce high-pitched whistles within the chest-based vocal range where echolocation sounds are generated.
Sperm whales and beaked whales can dive to depths of nearly 10,000 feet (3,048 meters). At such depths, water pressure is extremely high, compressing even air.
Whales direct air into their muscles to survive, while their lungs deflate to prevent decompression sickness.
Scientists studied live trained dolphins, tracked sounds from living whales, and also examined remains of stranded animals to understand how they generate sound at such depths.
After two decades of research, they finally found the answer. They discovered that toothed whales channel the small amount of air in their lungs into a nasal sac called the nasopharyngeal pouch. The air bypasses both the lungs and vocal cords entirely.
These animals essentially produce sound using a newly evolved nasal structure rather than their larynx.
