While puddings are usually available semi-prepared in supermarkets, you can make a delicious, nutritious, and healthy pudding at home using this easy recipe. Below, we share the recipe for date pudding along with some important tips and tricks to help you prepare it perfectly.
Ingredients for Date Pudding:
Pitted dates: 10
Milk: 2 cups
Pastry flour: 2.5 tablespoons
Cornstarch: 2.5 tablespoons
Sugar: 2 tablespoons
Butter: 1 tablespoon
Rosewater: 1 tablespoon
Important Tips Regarding Ingredients:
Cornstarch Tips: Cornstarch resembles flour and is white in color. It also has a soft texture, and if you rub some between your fingers, you will hear a squeaky sound. Cornstarch is used as a thickening agent in various desserts and dishes. Note that corn starch and wheat starch are different and cannot be substituted for each other. Cornstarch can be found in hygienic packaging at specialized pastry supply stores.
Rosewater Tips: Rosewater is the fragrant extract of the Damask rose, and the highest quality rosewater is produced in the cities of Kashan and Meymand in Fars. Today, in most stores and supermarkets, you can find bottles of rosewater with various brands, but many of them are not pure and lack the true fragrance of rosewater. Pure rosewater has the smell of Damask roses and does not have any sour or unpleasant odor. It is clear, light in color, and without sediment. Pure rosewater has a rich, slightly bitter taste, so pay attention to this when buying rosewater.
How to Make Date Pudding:
To start, place the dates with 3 to 4 tablespoons of milk into a blender and blend for about a minute until smooth and uniform.
In a suitable pot, mix the flour and cornstarch with the milk until it dissolves and is free of lumps. Then place the mixture on medium heat and stir constantly until it thickens and sets.
At this stage, add the blended dates along with sugar, butter, and rosewater to the pot. Stir the mixture, and once the pudding starts bubbling from the sides, turn off the heat. Pour the prepared pudding into a serving dish and refrigerate for 3 hours to set and cool. Your delicious date pudding is now ready to serve. Enjoy!
Note: You can use any type of dates or fresh dates you prefer for this pudding.
