SAEDNEWS: Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky acknowledged that Kyiv currently has no pathway into NATO, citing a lack of support from the United States and several other member states.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has admitted that, for now, Ukraine has no realistic path to joining the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.
“We are realists. We genuinely want to join NATO—that’s fair,” Zelensky said, as reported by the Ukrainian outlet Strana. “But we know for certain that neither the United States nor several other countries see Ukraine in the alliance yet. And Russia, of course, will never accept us there.”
Zelensky also reiterated that he is ready to hold national elections, noting that a vote could be organized within 60 to 90 days. His comments follow a recent statement from Oleg Didenko, head of Ukraine’s Central Election Commission, who estimated that more than three months would be needed to prepare for elections once active hostilities end.
Meanwhile, Rodion Miroshnik, an ambassador-at-large for the Russian Foreign Ministry, dismissed Zelensky’s election remarks as a bluff and an attempt to manipulate procedural rules, according to an interview with TASS.
