SAEDNEWS: Chinese tech giant Tencent has announced that its messaging app, WeChat, now supports a payment system called Palm Pay. With this innovation, users can complete transactions simply by scanning the palm of their hand—turning their hand into a virtual bank card.
According to Saed News Technology Service, biometric authentication technologies have been gaining popularity for several years, with new services constantly emerging. WeChat users who want to access this latest service must link their account to devices equipped with facial recognition and then register a scan of their palm in the app. Once registered, users can make everyday payments simply by scanning their hand.
Replacing Bank Cards with Palm Scans
WeChat’s new payment system, called Palm Pay, introduces an innovative way for users to make transactions. The system scans the user’s palm on payment devices and verifies their identity, allowing them to complete transactions securely.
Developed in Tencent’s artificial intelligence labs, known as YouTu, researchers focused on enhancing transaction security and creating optimized methods for biometric authentication. Now, the company has successfully implemented a palm-based authentication system for payments.
Before its public launch, the technology underwent extensive testing under various lighting conditions and demonstrated reliable performance. Researchers claim that the system offers a high level of security.
One of the most interesting features of Palm Pay is its ability to recognize a palm even if the user changes its orientation on the scanner. The system can quickly identify the palm’s unique pattern and confirm—or deny—the user’s identity.
