Trump’s Strange Claim About Iran’s Request: “Let’s See What Happens — They’ve Asked Me…”

SAEDNEWS: Donald Trump, the President of the United States, claimed that Iran has requested the lifting of sanctions and stated that he is ready to listen to such requests.

Trump’s Strange Claim About Iran’s Request: “Let’s See What Happens — They’ve Asked Me…”

According to the political service of Saed News, quoting Khabar Online and Reuters, Trump told reporters at the White House on Friday:

“Iran has asked whether the sanctions can be lifted. Iran is under very severe U.S. sanctions, which makes it extremely difficult for them to do what they wish to do. I’m ready to listen, and we’ll see what happens—but I’m ready for that.”

According to IRNA, Trump also commented on the Gaza Strip, saying that an international force is expected to be deployed in the enclave “soon.”

Trump’s claim of being “ready to listen” to Iran’s requests for sanction relief comes even as, since the start of his second presidential term in January, he has reinstated his “maximum pressure” campaign. He imposed new sanctions and, while still engaged in negotiations, launched an aggressive military strike against Iran.

Background of Recent Escalations

Although the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States were scheduled to hold their sixth round of indirect talks in Oman on June 15, 2025 (25 Khordad 1404), the Israeli regime carried out a flagrant violation of international law and Iran’s national sovereignty two days earlier, on June 13 (23 Khordad). It targeted several sites in Tehran and other cities—including nuclear facilities—through military strikes. The attacks resulted in the martyrdom of a number of Iranian scientists, military personnel, and civilians.

Subsequently, on June 21 (1 Tir), the United States joined Netanyahu’s war, bombing Iran’s nuclear facilities in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan—facilities that are under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)—in clear violation of international law, including the NPT treaty.

Iran’s Military Response

In retaliation for Israel’s crimes, Iran’s Armed Forces launched Operation True Promise 3, deploying missiles and drones. According to international analysts, the strikes rendered Israel’s Iron Dome and other air defense systems ineffective over the occupied territories.

Following the U.S. attack on Iranian nuclear sites, Iran conducted Operation Basharat al-Fath (Good News of Victory), targeting the largest American military base in the region—Al-Udeid Air Base in Qatar.

Ceasefire Declaration

Finally, on June 23 (3 Tir), the U.S. President announced a ceasefire agreement between Iran and Israel. The Islamic Republic of Iran emphasized that it was not the initiator of the conflict, declaring that if Israel halted its unlawful aggression, Iran would also refrain from further retaliatory actions.

Diplomatic Contradictions

Before their invasion of Iranian territory, Trump administration officials had sought to present an optimistic outlook for negotiations with Iran. At the same time, they continued to repeat threats and warnings under their maximum pressure policy, attempting to instill fear about the consequences of a potential diplomatic failure.

Now, after jointly attacking Iran alongside Tel Aviv, they are striving once again to reopen talks with Tehran—even though they betrayed diplomacy itself. In the midst of negotiations, not only did they give Israel the green light for aggression, but they also directly participated in that very act of war.
