Iran and Turkey FMs Meet in Jeddah Amid Stalled Nuclear Talks with U.S. and Europe

SAEDNEWS: At the OIC summit in Jeddah, Iran’s FM Abbas Araghchi and Turkey’s FM Hakan Fidan discussed suspended nuclear talks with the U.S. and Europe, Islamic unity against Israel, and expanding bilateral cooperation in trade, energy, and security.

According to Saed News, citing ISNA, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan met on Monday on the sidelines of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) summit in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Fidan told reporters that Iran had held talks with Europe regarding nuclear negotiations and had also engaged in discussions with the United States, though these talks are currently suspended.
He added: “I had telephone conversations with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio. We (with my Iranian counterpart) also discussed this matter, and we had the opportunity to assess this new agenda in light of certain statements coming from the United States.”

Meanwhile, the Iranian Foreign Ministry stated that during the meeting, Araghchi expressed appreciation for Turkey’s support of the Palestinian people and its active chairmanship of the OIC. He also called for strengthening the shared capacities of the Islamic world to confront Israel’s expansionist projects and to defend the Palestinian cause.

According to the statement, the latest developments in bilateral cooperation between Tehran and Ankara were also reviewed. Both ministers emphasized the strategic and continuous relations between the two countries and stressed expanding cooperation in key sectors such as trade, energy, transportation, border security, and regional exchanges.

The two sides also underlined the importance of holding the Iran–Turkey High Council of Cooperation as soon as possible, considering it a practical step toward deepening bilateral ties.
