Qatari Prime Minister Warns: Israel ‘Jeopardizing’ Security in West Asia

In an interview with the US conservative website Breitbart News on Thursday, conducted on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani highlighted the destabilizing role of the Israeli regime in the region. He emphasized that Israel’s actions “not only jeopardize regional security but also endanger US interests and undermine decades-long American partnerships.”

Al Thani praised US President Donald Trump for being receptive during recent discussions, noting that the president is “listening to all leaders and is willing to work together to find a solution and put an end to the conflict.”

Earlier this week, Trump met with Arab leaders in New York following his UNGA address, particularly after Israel’s assassination strike in Doha, Qatar’s capital, which targeted Hamas negotiators.

Sheikh Al Thani stated that any resolution to the conflict must start with Gaza—ending the war there and building peace from that foundation. He criticized Israel’s actions, describing them as “genocidal” and lacking any boundaries or red lines under Prime Minister Netanyahu.

The Qatari premier urged the Trump administration to pressure Israel into halting the conflict in Gaza, asserting that Trump is “the only one” capable of holding Netanyahu accountable and ending the war. Al Thani also suggested that Netanyahu is exploiting the Gaza conflict for political gain, a point Trump seemed to acknowledge, noting that the strike in Doha was against US interests.

Trump later condemned the attack on Doha, calling it counterproductive to both US and Israeli goals, emphasizing that unilateral strikes against a sovereign ally working for peace do not advance strategic objectives. Reports suggest that Netanyahu may have tipped Trump off about the strike beforehand, but Al Thani remained hopeful that Trump could intervene to prevent further escalation.

This dialogue sheds light on Qatar’s diplomatic role in mediating regional conflicts and underscores the ongoing complexities of Middle East geopolitics, offering insight into the delicate balance between national interests, international partnerships, and peace efforts.
