According to SAEDNEWS, In a shocking incident on Saturday, August 31, 2024, San Francisco 49ers rookie Ricky Pearsall was shot during an attempted robbery in Union Square, a popular area in San Francisco. The 23-year-old wide receiver was targeted by a 17-year-old armed robber who tried to steal Pearsall's Rolex watch.

The robbery took place around 3:37 p.m. when Pearsall was alone on Geary Street near Grant Street. According to police, the young thief confronted Pearsall, leading to a struggle over the weapon. During the altercation, the gun was fired multiple times, resulting in Pearsall suffering a gunshot wound to the chest.

San Francisco's Police Chief Bill Scott shared that Pearsall demonstrated significant courage during the incident, stating, “Ricky wasn’t having any of it.” Thankfully, Pearsall is currently in serious but stable condition, as confirmed by the 49ers organization.

The teenage suspect from Tracy, California, was also injured in the struggle and managed to escape on foot, but he was quickly arrested by police officers who arrived at the scene. A gun was recovered by law enforcement. Both Pearsall and the 17-year-old were taken to San Francisco General Hospital for treatment.

San Francisco Mayor London Breed condemned the violence, stating, “Robberies and any violence like this will not be tolerated in our city.” She also expressed her support for Pearsall, saying she hopes for his speedy recovery.

Charges are expected to be filed against the juvenile in the coming days in juvenile court, with San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins emphasizing that such behavior will not be accepted.

Witnesses reported hearing several gunshots, causing chaos among people in the area. One security guard noted seeing a man, potentially the robber, running into a nearby store as the shots rang out.

Pearsall, who was drafted 31st overall by the 49ers in this year’s NFL Draft, had been on his way to a signing event when the robbery occurred. His teammate, Deebo Samuel, tweeted relief following the news, stating, “He’s good. Thank god!!!!”
