SAEDNEWS: Iran’s Parliament held a closed session on the snapback sanctions mechanism, with lawmakers stressing that renewed UN resolutions will not significantly affect the economy, while affirming Tehran’s readiness for strong and deterrent countermeasures.
According to Saed News, Abbas Goudarzi, spokesperson of the Presiding Board of the Islamic Consultative Assembly (Parliament), told reporters regarding today’s closed session:
“Given the circumstances of the country, the region, and international developments, and with the commitment of the Speaker of Parliament and the representatives to playing their strategic role in the current context, a closed-door session lasting about an hour and a half was held today.”
He added: “In this meeting, the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of Parliament presented a comprehensive report on the process of the snapback mechanism (trigger mechanism) and its possible consequences for the economy and other areas of the country. A number of representatives also expressed their viewpoints.”
Europe must be cautious not to lose the trust of nations
Goudarzi stated: “The Speaker of Parliament emphasized in this session that the Islamic Republic of Iran has the upper hand in this matter, and any reciprocal action deemed necessary by the system’s authorities will be pursued without hesitation. Accordingly, intensive sessions led by the National Security Committee are planned to be held with the participation of representatives of the people, in order to make strategic and reciprocal decisions on this issue.”
The spokesperson of the Presiding Board highlighted: “The important point is that activation of the snapback mechanism and the eventual return of the six UN Security Council resolutions will not have a real or tangible effect on the country’s economic situation. This is because those resolutions targeted around 120 individuals and entities, while today more than 2,000 individuals and entities are already unilaterally sanctioned by the United States. Therefore, the situation will not become worse than it already is; the only goal of the enemies is to create a psychological atmosphere in society.”
He continued: “This psychological pressure may lead to a rise in the exchange rate and tension in the market, but the authorities will certainly play their role in managing this sector, and the people must also provide the necessary cooperation. The fundamental point is that the Islamic Republic of Iran will not be harmed in this domain.”
Goudarzi further stressed: “Enemies must understand that Parliament, the government, the Supreme National Security Council, and all pillars and institutions of the system are united, cohesive, and integrated. Iran’s response to hostile actions will be reciprocal and deterrent.”
He said: “In the coming days, Parliament will review all proposals and plans of the representatives with the National Security Committee at the center.”
The spokesperson concluded: “On this matter, both reformists and principlists, as well as other political factions in Parliament, are in full agreement that Iran’s response must be firm, reciprocal, and make the enemy regret its actions, so that the costs of hostile measures are imposed on them. All of these plans and proposals will be reviewed in the scheduled sessions, and the necessary decision will ultimately be made.”
