China: The U.S. Has Disrupted the Order of the Open Seas

According to a Thursday report by Saeed News citing the Global Times, Geng Shuang stated at the 35th UN Convention on the Law of the Sea meeting that while the world seeks to strengthen multilateralism and shared governance of the seas, the U.S. has adopted unilateral and provocative policies, ignoring globally accepted principles.

He added that the U.S., by abusing the provisions of the Law of the Sea Convention and selectively implementing them, has become a destabilizing actor in the global maritime order.

Geng Shuang emphasized that China urges the U.S. to seriously reconsider its approach, pursue cooperation, fairness, and maritime justice, and play a constructive role in global open seas governance.

He also warned that continued unilateral and confrontational U.S. policies could have negative consequences for peace, security, and sustainable development in maritime domains.
