SAEDNEWS: The mummy of the wealthy young man was first discovered in 1916 in Edfu and was kept in the basement of the Egyptian Museum in Cairo until recently.
According to the Society Section of SaedNews, citing Hamshahri Online, many of the amulets or charms found with this mummy were made of gold, including a golden tongue amulet inside the mouth, a golden heart scarab within the chest cavity, and a charm placed near the genitals.
This mummy was first discovered in 1916 in Edfu and remained in the basement of the Egyptian Museum in Cairo until recently. The body had been mummified to a high standard, indicating that the boy held a high social status and showed no signs of disease or malnutrition. He was wrapped in fine linen and adorned with a gilded mummy mask and sandals.
Another “Golden Mummy” was discovered in Saqqara, in a tomb from the Fifth and Sixth Dynasties, excavated by an Egyptian team. The team uncovered a large limestone sarcophagus containing the gold-wrapped mummy of a man named Hekasheps. Although not the oldest fully discovered mummy to date, Hekasheps is believed to be the oldest gold-covered mummy ever found. The team also discovered the tomb of Meri, “Keeper of Secrets and Assistant to the Chief of the Great Palace.”
All of these mummies clearly belonged to wealthy and socially prominent individuals, and their tombs contained numerous finely crafted statues and artifacts.
