According to SaedNews: US President Donald Trump has launched a renewed effort in recent days to reestablish contact with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and potentially meet him in person, The Wall Street Journal reported.

Citing US officials, the newspaper said Trump has been urging his advisers to arrange a meeting with Kim as soon as possible during the fall. Trump has also considered holding the meeting during a possible November trip to Asia, alongside the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in China.

At the White House yesterday, Trump told reporters that Kim had responded to his requests for talks and described the exchange as “very positive.” He gave no details about when the contact occurred or what was discussed, while again emphasizing his personal relationship with the North Korean leader.

The remarks came a day after Trump ordered a significant reduction in joint US-South Korean military exercises on his social media platform. He called the drills “inappropriate and hostile” and attributed the decision to his “very good relationship” with Kim.

Trump met Kim three times during his first presidential term, with their most recent meeting taking place in 2019 in the inter-Korean border area. Years later, he is again pursuing direct, personal diplomacy with Pyongyang.

North Korea has so far issued no official response to Trump’s claims.
