Vance Says Iran’s Nuclear Program Is No Longer the War’s Main Priority

According to SaedNews: Nearly six months into the U.S.-Israeli offensive against Iran, Vice President JD Vance told Fox News that preventing Tehran from acquiring a nuclear weapon is not the top priority of the conflict.

Vance said Washington’s main objective is to keep oil and gasoline prices affordable for Americans, while stopping Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons comes in second.

His remarks come after President Donald Trump has offered several different explanations for the war, ranging from regime change and the destruction of Iran’s military capabilities to preventing Tehran from acquiring a nuclear weapon. Vance has now identified keeping oil prices down as the war’s primary goal.

ABC News, reporting on Vance’s comments, said they also highlighted the growing focus on control of the Strait of Hormuz. Iran has placed the waterway at the center of negotiations, even though the strait had essentially remained open before the war.
