SAEDNEWS: Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman has responded to remarks by the U.S. president, who claimed that the United States had taken spoils from Iran.
According to Saed News, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei has criticized remarks by the U.S. president claiming that the United States is taking “spoils” from Iran.
In a post on X, Baghaei responded to the U.S. president’s statement that “the spoils belong to the victors.” The American president had also claimed that the United States was taking large quantities of oil from Venezuela and would do the same with the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Baghaei said the remarks reminded him of Joseph Heller’s novel Catch-22, particularly the opportunistic character Milo Minderbinder, who turns war into an opportunity for personal profit. According to Baghaei, Heller depicts a world in which war and profiteering become so intertwined that people appear to be fighting for personal wealth rather than for their country.
He argued that the U.S. administration appears determined to bring this logic from the realm of fiction into the real world and make it a central principle of American foreign policy.
Baghaei added that U.S. officials are promising to follow the same path in Iran as they have in Venezuela. However, he pointed to what he described as a fundamental problem: before anyone can divide the spoils of war, they must first win the war.
He said this was not the situation facing the United States, arguing that it was instead “stuck in a strait,” had failed to achieve any of its stated objectives, was facing weapons shortages, and had ultimately lost its credibility.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman said that under such circumstances, the “spoils of Iran” would amount to little more than a paper trophy for a victory that would never materialize.
Baghaei concluded by saying that Milo at least knew how to profit from war, while the current group was dividing imaginary spoils in front of the cameras without ever getting its hands on the actual spoils.
