SAEDNEWS: Foreign Ministry Spokesperson: U.S. Seeks “Total Surrender” of Iran, Not Negotiation; Tehran Rejects Trump Proposal

Tehran’s Clear Condition for Any Nuclear Negotiations Announced

According to Iran’s political news service Saednews, Ismail Baghaei, spokesperson for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, spoke in a candid interview with India Today Global about the nuclear deadlock, the possible closure of the Strait of Hormuz, alleged U.S. and Israeli attacks, and Iran’s preparedness to respond to escalating tensions.

Citing ISNA, Baghaei explained the reason Iran rejected Donald Trump’s proposal, stating that the United States is seeking “total surrender” from Iran rather than genuine negotiations. He said Washington’s approach is about imposing its will, not engaging in a real political process of compromise. According to him, Iran’s counterproposal emphasizes ending the conflict and reopening the Strait of Hormuz before any nuclear talks can proceed.

The Foreign Ministry spokesperson also stressed that the United States has effectively undermined nuclear negotiations twice in less than nine months. He noted that Washington abandoned talks both earlier last year and again on February 28, 2026, in the middle of the process, arguing that Iran was not the side that walked away from the negotiating table. He warned against repeating what he described as a failed approach.

In another part of the interview, Baghaei stated that any disruption or closure of the Strait of Hormuz is the responsibility of the United States, not Iran. He said the strait remained open before February 28, but Iran responded after the U.S. and Israel allegedly used the territory of regional Gulf states to launch attacks.

He further added that under international law, a maritime blockade is itself considered an act of war.
